The Music

When it comes right down to it, the Big Wu is all about the music. Originally it was a chance to hear some good music over a beer... er, several beers, and kick back with college friends in Northfield, MN on a Friday or Saturday night. Sooner or later, the frequency of these gatherings increased with a series of Tuesday nights at the Terminal Bar in near-north Minneapolis. Eventually the parade moved to Weednesday nights, and a new, bigger, and better venue - the Cabooze. For a Minneapolis Wu-fan, the greatest moment was watching the band spread its wings and travel the countryside to bring the good tunes to more ears than could be found in the blustery North Star State. This could only mean one thing: more great people to meet, and more great music on the way!

CD Releases
On September 12th, 1997 another historic event took place at the Cabooze Bar. The Big Wu hosted a CD Release party for their Debut CD Tracking Buffalo Through the Bathtub. Andrew Eklund, former college days bassist for the Big wu said it best: "An excellent show went down that night with mass frenzy from those in attendance." The irony was that the CD was actually "in the mail" and wouldn't arrive until a few days after the show.

Internet Downloads
Need a Wu studio release but the stores near you don't carry it and you just can't wait for an online order to be mailed to you? Maybe you have all the studio albums and you are looking to get some extra crispy live recordings? Our Internet Download section will feed your fix.

Original Tunes & Lyrics
"Red Sky" and "Kangaroo" are the requests heard by the band now from the dancing fans just off the stage between songs. The change in battle cries came at a time when the Wu was creating their own sound - the best part about the music is watching it grow, and change over time. I still remember the first time the Big Wu played their first real original tune, "silcanturnitova" at the Terminal Bar in '95. They were nervous, yet confident, and they played their hearts out. When they tore into "Texas Fireball" for the first time at the Fine Line in '98 the nervousness was gone, and a frantic crowd lost several calories shaking their booty to the beat.

Petrified Wu
Finally, The Petrified Wu is a little piece of Wu history. Buried deep within, there are the names, places, stories, and the soundtrack behind it all. Shhh, now listen carefully as a new chapter is being written each and every day...

Audio Files
Or, is that Audiophiles? There's one thing that brings us all together on a regular basis, and that is the live music experience. Because the Wu Family is much better at circulating live performances then we are ourselves, we'd like to point you in their direction to download live music on the Web. Check it out here, with over 70 shows up there already, and more on the way! (Special Thanks goes out to Diana Hamilton and Brian "Grout" Hormann.)
